Featured Quilt - The "Journey" Towards Marital Bliss

Compass - Journey to Turkish Blue by Ishihara Kiyoko was featured as part of the Hand Crafted / Hand Made category (Sponsored by Flynn Quilt Frame Company) at the 2023 Houston International Quilt Festival. Ishihara was inspired to create this lovingly made hand pieced, hand appliquéd, hand embellished, hand embroidered, AND hand quilted quilt as a to celebrate the nuptials of her two sons. She says, "I made this quilt, Compass - Journey to Turkish Blue, in memory of the marriage of my sons. I think that life is like a wonderful voyage. I wish all my sons happiness in their future. I hope that my sons get over any difficulty by all means and advance toward their dreams with their partners."

The Block Of the Month Is a Big Hit!

Not only is Jen Kingwell a great teacher, she is also a great quilt designer too, and all of our members just love our 2024 TQS exclusive Block Of the Month that she designed for us entitled Pick a Petal. See this year's BOM in our latest show and listen in on why everyone just can't wait to get started on it:

"I was so thrilled when Jen Kingwell was announced as the 2024 quilt. I have made (then) Gypsy Wife, Steampunk, two Boho Hearts, and am working on Wensleydale. I absolutely love her designs! Thanks for the great introduction. I have ordered the templates and will be using my stash." - MaryJo M.

"Enjoyed the show. I just started into hand work, and I learn a few things from this show that will help me in my future projects." - MelBart

"When I learned to quilt it was done hand piecing and I just love hand work so will be doing this BOM by hand. So looking forward to it." - Lynn N.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Bringing the Heat in the Cold

"Fire In Ice" by Jeanie Sumrall-Ajero

Fire In Ice features blocks that are printed on fabric surrounded by matching batiks. There is no appliqué in the quilt, so each approximately eight-inch block is printed as a single piece. The quilt also has no embroidery in it but was quilted to give off the effect of both appliqué and embroidery.
