Featured Quilt - More Than 2000 Hours to Complete
A Year in Hand by Margaret Brockbank, and quilted by Maika Christensen, was created from a Mrs. Billings Coverlet pattern by Karen Styles. The original quilt was made in 1790 and is in the collection of the Quilters Guild of the British Isles. Margaret's quilt was on exhibit at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2024 at part of the Pieced exhibit (Sponsored by AccuQuilt/June Tailer).
Margaret writes about the quilt, "I have always enjoyed any type of handwork. I had previously done English Paper Piecing but never on this large of a scale. All piecing was hand-sewn with some of the borders attached by machine. I chose to use a contemporary palette. It took a year to complete and approximately 2000 hours. My daughter, Maika, used her skills as a machine quilter to finish this enjoyable project." |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Mountainous "Meadow"

"Mountain Meadow" by Cheryl Arkison
Since Cheryl lives close to the mountains, and loves hiking them with her family, she was inspired by the Alpine Meadows region to create her quilt Mountain Meadow. Featuring a sea of green fabrics, Cheryl's quilt replicates a wonderful feat of nature that is only viewed during the right season in the meadows. During that specific season wildflowers bloom across the meadow, But in the mountains those flowers are tiny, so you just get little pops of color sprinkled throughout the green as the sun is playing on it. Cheryl recreates this effect by incorporating colored squares that are improved pieced across the various shades of green fabric representing the meadows.
