Featured Quilt - Second Place Human Image at Road to California 2025

After winning The Janome Master Award For Innovative Artistry at he 2023 Houston International Quilt Festival, Judy Crotts' quilt, Those Darn Boys, has won Second Place - Human Image (Sponsored by Sew Treasured Quilt Shop) at Road to California 2025. She says the quilt was inspired by, "A photo I took of my grandson and two friends, captured childhood, friendship, laughter and a bit of mischief. Having recently been inspired by contemporary quilt artist, Bisa, this photo gave me the opportunity to experiment with her unique use of color, pattern and bold prints. This quilt also expresses my hope that children can grow up in a world where the color of their skin doesn't define them and and where girls feel empowered."

Once you've seen the quilt, make sure to click the Quilt Video tab to watch Judy discuss the quilt and her winning The Janome Master Award for Innovative Artistry at the 2023 Quilt Festival Judged Show with Bob Ruggiero, Vice President of Communications for Quilts Inc.

Texas Tech: Searching for Origins - Star and Crescent Quilt

A Collection of Quilts Is Coming to The Museum of Texas Tech University

The Museum of Texas Tech University is proud to announce that the 450 quilts from the collection of West Texas native Lisa Erlandson have been promised to the Museum, with an exhibit showcasing 40 of her treasures. Mrs. Erlandson, a quilt historian, has held numerous leadership roles with the American Quilt Study Group. She is particularly passionate about researching and preserving the stories behind each quilt. Having collected quilts for many years, she has chosen this institution to care for her remarkable collection, an honor the Museum staff deeply appreciates. The exhibit will be on display through August 17, 2025.

Lisa has been a guest of The Quilt Show too, and you learn about her work with antique quilts by watching her in How to Prep Appliqué and Needleturn Appliqué with Irene Blanck | Vintage Appliqué Quilts with Lisa Erlandson. The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Garden Variety Sampler

"Sunny Vale" by Kate Colleran

Sunny Vale is the sampler quilt featured in Kate's book, Patchwork Braids, and shows off all of the different techniques that you can learn from it. Designed and pieced by Kate, and quilted by Lisa Soderborg of The Quilted Cricket, it is named after a flower like the rest of the quilts in the book because Kate wanted the book to fell like a garden of quilts, with Sunny Vale being the final garden. It features adding squares, pieced strips, different strips of various sizes, fun star blocks, and more versatile techniques for a quilter to work on and expand their quilting capabilities.
