Featured Quilt - This Quilt Has 506 One-Inch Half-Square Triangles In It!
Stars All Around by Peggy Morton, and quilted by Elizabeth Miller, was part of the 25 Years of Scrap Exhibit (Sponsored by Brother) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2024. The quilt was inspired by the work of someone near and dear to The Quilt Show's heart, Sue Garman, who designed SEVEN of our Block Of the Month's. But it's not just the inspiration we love, but the scrappy nature of the quilt as well. How does "506 one-inch Half-Square Triangles for the border" sound?
Peggy says, "The cover of the book, Legacies of Love by Sue Garman, inspired this star block exchange in May of 1999. We made 4-1/2" finished Ohio Stars, eight for each of the ten participants. I chose the finish and setting, making 506 one-inch Half-Square Triangles for the border." |

What's Lee Been Up To Lately?
It's been over three years since Lee Chappell Monroe visited The Quilt Show, and we were excited to hear what has been going on in her life. Lee tells us about how she enjoys helping students build confidence with color through quilting. She is known for combining traditional patterns with modern design elements, and believes quilting, especially with large-scale projects, is a great way to develop color skills. We meet Agnes, the new addition to her studio, and have a look at her quilts.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: The "Keys to Paradise" Await |
|
|
|
"Keys to Paradise" by Michele Sanandajian
Keys to Paradise was created for a show where the concept of the quilt had to be something about Florida. So Michele mapped out the Florida Keys onto sketch paper and went to work. The Keys themselves are collaged pieces of fabric built up on batting, with each one taking about eight to ten hours to build up. The background was also hand painted blue. As to the "Keys" of the title, it has two distinct meanings, with one referring to the islands in Florida, and the other the literal keys dangling off the bottom of the quilt.
