Featured Quilt - Blue Hawaii

From the Houston International Quilt Festival Sapphire Celebration in 2019 we have Blue Hawaii by an unknown maker and quilted by Ellen Phillips. This quilt was donated to the Texas Quilt Museum in 2015 by Karen Kay Buckley and quilted by Ellen in 2018. Echo quilting was selected to complete the quilt in the traditional Hawaiian method. The unknown appliquér was an expert in her craft.

Blue Hawaii is a large, intricate two-color appliqué quilt in shades of deep blue on white. The quilt features a central circular medallion design surrounded by elaborate scrolling and floral border motifs.

Barbara Black's Tips for "Laurel Ridge" Month 12

A Finished Quilt Top Is In Your Sights!

The patterns have all been released, you've watched all the videos, and now you're ready to put together Laurel Ridge, The Quilt Show's 2025 Block Of the Month designed by Lynn Wilder. But first, maybe you want a few last minute pointers for putting your top together. Barbara Black is here with her tips on what to do and what NOT to do when it comes to the final assembly process. She says, "We made it! It's time to ASSEMBLE your quilt top! The quilt is put together in a variety of sections. The directions are thorough and easy to follow. What could possibly go wrong??!!"

PLEASE NOTE: All patterns for Laurel Ridge by Lynn Wilder will no longer be available after January 1, 2026. So please make sure to have downloaded all patterns before or by that date even if you don't intend to finish the BOM by then. To facilitate this process, we have combined all twelve months patterns into one convenient document for you to download.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: See This Quilt In a New Dimension

"Vex Props" by Ruth Ann Berry

Vex Props was Ruth Ann's first attempt at making a 3-D quilt. Her original idea to execute the 3-D effect was to create a classic tumbling block background and then piece the other items in with it so that it would look like they were on top of the background. Instead, she "built from a single pattern piece, an equilateral triangle, cut from width of fabric strips with a 60° Ruler." Stacking the triangles in vertical rows and sewing the rows together brought out the 3-Dimensional effect she was hoping for, and the result was Vex Props.
