Featured Quilt - A Meditative and Peaceful Quilt

Tranquil Blues by Shu-Hui Chen was featured in the Landscape Quilts category at the 2023 Houston International Quilt Festival. Inspired by family photos, Shu-Hui's quilt is a lovely, peaceful, and calming work to reflect on the year as it comes to an end. She says of her inspiration, "The photos were taken during family travel. Small bridges, flowing water, ancient houses, and a peaceful atmosphere are as beautiful as a painting. It's like the water capital of Venice in the East."

Ring In The New Year With Jen Kingwell and TQS!

Join Alex, Ricky, and Our 2024 BOM Designer to Celebrate

Tomorrow may be the first day of the year, but we're getting a head start and celebrating with our annual Block Of the Month show a day early. Meet Jen Kingwell, designer of Pick A Petal, the 2024 Block of the Month quilt inspired by springtime flowers outside her kitchen window.

The medallion style quilt features her signature mix of vintage blocks, a wide range of fabrics, piecing, and appliqué. In this show, Jen shares helpful tips for working hand piecing with acrylic templates, the benefits of the tailor’s knot, sewing a running seam, and how to combine and feature hand embroidery stitches for embellishment and quilting areas of the quilt.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Good Boy

"Skippy" by Pat Bishop

Skippy is a quilt that Pat made of her brother Nick's dog of the same name. Now that most of her siblings are retired, Pat likes to get together with them once a month for lunch. One day at lunch Skippy was lying on the floor and Pat decided to take his picture. Upon seeing the photo, she knew she had to make a quilt of it. Even though Skippy is no longer around, the quilt acts as a beautiful reminder of the time he shared with Pat and Nick's family. As Pat puts it, "My brother's dog, who in his old age was blind, diabetic and needed daily shots just kept on living his life, no complaints. A good dog."
