Featured Quilt - A Twist on Tradition
Ripple Effect by Nancy Messuri was featured in the A Twist on Tradition - Modern Quilts! Exhibit at the 2023 Houston International Quilt Festival. Nancy says of her quilt, "I took a course on optical illusion quilts, and one of the techniques was to play with block sizes. I just happened to drop the Cut Glass Dish block into the existing blocks and was amazed at how well it worked. I played with color for quite a while before ending up with this design. The border was an afterthought, but I love how it makes the design stretch."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: An Abstract Bird
"Whooper" by Pat Bishop
Leaning more into her abstract sensibilities, Whooper features a whooping crane as its central figure, but both it and the background are somewhat deconstructed into the simpler shapes of an abstract quilt rather than the more realistic designs seen in a standard pictorial quilt. Pat says about her inspiration for the quilt, "Whooping cranes are coming back from extinction thanks to the Crane Foundation of Baraboo, WI where my cousin, Mary Kay Baum took a photo I used to inspire this piece."
