Featured Quilt - Lovely Lotuses In Bloom
You wouldn't know it if you just saw a picture of it, but there's a reason why Li-Hsiang Wang's quilt, Lotus, was entered into the Pictorial-Small category (Sponsored by AllBrands.com) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2024. After viewing the main photo of the quilt, step back and view the second photo in the gallery that shows the quilt from a distance and you'll understand the perspective and craft that went into making this beautiful work.
As for the quilt's subject matter, it is a lovely story celebrating the blooming of the flowers as Summer comes into season. (Which we're sure a lot of people are looking forward to while these cold months are here.) Li-Hsiang says, "In summer, the lotus flowers in the Taipei Botanical Garden are in full bloom, attracting many people to visit and adding fun to the summer." |

Get It While You Can
While we are excited to get going on our exclusive 2025 Block Of the Month, Laurel Ridge by Lynn Wilder, we want all members to remember that December 31, 2024 is the last day you can download the patterns for our 2024 Block Of the Month, Pick a Petal designed by Jen Kingwell. After that date, The Quilt Show will no longer be able to provide you the patterns for the 2024 BOM. We strongly recommend downloading all of the patterns before then to avoid any issues that might arise after the first of the year. To make this easier for you, we have a single convenient file for you that contains all 12 months' patterns.
(Even if you aren't working on the quilt now, you might want to in the future.) |

Go Nuts Over These Nutcracker Costumes
While Christmas may be over, the holiday season is still here. And what better way is there to enjoy the holidays then to take in a performance of The Nutcracker. "Every holiday season the New York City Ballet puts on 50 performances of The Nutcracker for over 100,000 spectators." Each season, it's up to Marc Happel, Director of Costumes at New York City Ballet, and his team to make sure the costumes for those performances are in tip-top shape. Find out how they do it in this fascinating video from InStyle. |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A "Window" Into Beautiful Gardening |
|
|
|
"Garden Window" by Bonnie Langenfeld
Garden Window was done almost completely with thread sketching, with some individual cutwork at the bottom for some of the petals and other pieces. Those petals and other cut pieces were then thread sketched over as well. Bonnie just loves the dimensionality that the sketching has given her work, especially the central window. The window is accompanied by a sheer drape that seems to just be flying off of the quilt all by itself.
