Featured Quilt - Spinning Into A Colorful Quilt

Spiraling Into Cerise by Barb Sorensen was featured in the Pieced category (Sponsored AccuQuilt / June Tailor) at the 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival. The cerise of the title refers to the color that spirals in towards the center of the quilt. Barb says of her work, "The lines for the swirls are couched in a beautiful hand-dyed yarn, which turned out to be high maintenance with color bleed and shrinkage (fortunately discovered before I stitched it to my pieced center). Not willing to give up on my plan, I prewashed the yarn. The pieced center uses hand-painted fabrics, with those in the corners drawn over to subtly change their color."

Learn All About This Fascinating Exhibit

A short documentary on the 25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee exhibit that was on display at The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Art from March 1 through July 28, 2024 recently won three Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards. This short captured the exhibit which "is an artistic statement from the international community about human displacement, immigration, and solidarity. It is an aggregation of 25 million hand-sewn stitches, each representing a single displaced human being as counted in the UN’s High Commissioner on Refugees 2019 report."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Grand "Garden" On Display

"1800's Garden" by Bonnie Langenfeld

1800's Garden is based off a garden near Bonnie's Minnesota home that is on an 1800's farmstead, as the title would suggest. She says the image she depicted is just about exactly the way the garden looks. She was impressed with the fenceposts, the lighting, and everything she saw there and thought it was just beautiful. In the real life location however there was a highway in the background, so for her quilt Bonnie decided to change that into a grove of trees.
