Featured Quilt - Tis The Season For Magic
After your Thanksgiving meal last Thursday, some of you may have begun decorating for the holiday season and started putting up your Christmas trees. Has it crossed your mind though what magic happens at the tree lot after dark? Hanne Lohde has, and her quilt Night at the Tree Lot, which was featured in the Alternative Techniques category at the 2025 Houston International Quilt Festival, tells the story of what she thinks goes on there.
She says, "Have you ever stopped to think about what goes on at a Christmas tree lot after all the people go home at night? My quilt tells the story about what happens when the snowmen come alive, and the gnomes and forest animals all come out to decorate the trees at night. Some mornings, the old man who lives in the trailer cannot understand why he is so tired. He has totally forgotten that he was partying and helping everyone decorate the night before!"

Transforming Two-Dimensional Pieces Into 3-D Designs
Ruth Ann Berry begins our new show off by discussing how a column-based design starts on isometric graph paper. Assembly begins with creating strip units, which are then sub-cut and arranged in color order. She then shares how to construct the columns, offering tips for tracking color changes within each unit and avoiding the dreaded curved columns.

Let The Assembly Begin
It's the first of December, which means it's time for you to get the last month's patterns for the 2025 Block Of the Month, Laurel Ridge designed by Lynn Wilder. For Month 12, you will be putting the quilt together with the borders.
There are two colorways for this year's BOM, Grandmother's Autumn and Granddaughter's Spring. If you purchased either of these kits, make sure to download the pattern that goes with the appropriate colorway as they do differ because of the fabrics being used. If you are using your own fabrics, we recommend that you download the patterns from the Grandmother's Autumn colorway to use as your guide.
PLEASE NOTE: All patterns for Laurel Ridge by Lynn Wilder will no longer be available after January 1, 2026. So please make sure to have downloaded all patterns before or by that date even if you don't intend to finish the BOM by then. To facilitate this process, we have combined all twelve months patterns into one convenient document for you to download. |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Subtle "Sequoia" |
|
|
|
|
|
"Sequoia" by Pam Raby
The basis for Pam Raby's Sequoia quilt was the 54-40, or Fight block. Sequoia features something Pam likes to call a "triangle in a square inside a triangle in a square", meaning she creates the illusion of the tree in the quilt by disguising it in the more common triangle in a square block.
