Featured Quilt - Julia McLeod's Judge's Choice at PIQF 2024
Through a Lens by Arleen Reiko Kukua received Julia McLeod's Judge's Choice Ribbon at Pacific International Quilt Festival 2024. Arleen says, "Through a Lens is the third in a series of optical illusions. I attended a workshop with Sarah Nishiura about expanding the grid. She explained how to make designs with the use of basic graph paper, pencil and a ruler. Going back to the basics was just the inspiration I needed to look at quilts in a different way. The illusion of movement is made with shifting angles and curves." |

"Once Upon a Time" by Sharon Schamber
Once Upon a Time was one of Sharon's oldest UFOs and is entirely hand appliquéd and hand embroidered. Starting it the first year she began quilting, Sharon only finished over ten years later when her good friend Tom Russell came over, had her get it out of the box it'd been in, and made her sit there and finish the hand appliqué and hand embroidery that she hated to do but that he loved. It ended up winning Best of Show at Road to California 2014 and many other awards afterward.
