Featured Quilt - Third Place Innovative at PIQF 2024

Spiral Energy by Karen Eckmeier won Third Place - Innovative at Pacific International Quilt Festival 2024. What inspired Karen's quilt? She says, "My daily Qi Gong exercises inspired this piece. Flowing movements imitate the spiraling energy of our bodies and nature. I set my spirals amidst an abstract fern doodle that radiates energy up and out."

Karen was previously a guest of The Quilt Show, where she taught us how to make landscape quilts. See more of Karen's quilts and learn from her right here by watching How to Make a Landscape Quilt with Karen Eckmeier | Quilted Garments | Home Tour Casa De Vidrio.

In Memoriam: Sarah Bond and Daniela Stout

The quilting industry suffered two more blows recently with the loss of both Sarah Bond and Daniela Stout.

Sarah's work featured dynamic and colorful quilt designs, based on traditional patterns, that were influenced by the work of her female ancestors. She was a wonderful artist, educator, and delightful woman.

Daniela was a designer and publisher whose monthly "strip club" was a huge hit at her quilt shop in El Cajon, CA. We are sure more than one of you have made a quilt from one of her Cozy Quilt Designs. She is another amazing woman who will truly be missed.

We are opening up both of these artist's shows for free so that you can celebrate their life and work.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Walking Across Inspiration

"Kaleidoscopic XXX: Tree Grate, 53rd and 7th" by Paula Nadelstern

Paula says of Kaleidoscopic XXX: Tree Grate, 53rd and 7th"A tree grate integrates trees into the cityscape, suppressing weeds while allowing pedestrian traffic over the tree planting area. I’m a born and bred New Yorker. How many times had I passed these urban accessories before the day I looked down and instantly recognized the shape of my next quilt? I aimed for an unsettling conceptual shift, taking a symmetrical object that New Yorkers usually ignore and always assume will be solid, and pulling the ground out from under it."

Thank you! I find these tools very useful when we are on the go slope 3 or starting tasks in the kitchen.
