Featured Quilt - How Many Rings Can You Count?
Tree Rings by Vicki Conley was featured as part of the Breaking Rules, Honoring Tradition Exhibit at the Visions Gallery in Chandler, Arizona. The exhibit was described as showcasing, "the tension between pushing boundaries versus adhering to tried-and-true methods plays out in fiber form. We invited rule-breakers and traditionalists alike to interpret the theme in a variety of ways, including applying it to physical techniques, materials, construction methods, personal narratives, or commentary on social, cultural and political concerns."
Vicki, who was a recent guest on The Quilt Show, said that her quilt for the exhibit came about because of her playing around on her iPad. She says, "Tree Rings resulted from a drawing that I took into an App on the iPad and fell in love with one of the effects. Figuring out how to draft the design and then piece it with traditional methods was a challenge. I employed traditional foundation piecing."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Fresh Take On 117 Blocks
"Redux 117" by Marge Tucker
Redux 117 is Marge's modern reimagining of an antique crazy quilt she had purchased that originated from the late 1800s. That original antique quilt featured 117 blocks, each about 5 inches, with each block having its own unique design. Inspired by that crazy quilt, Marge wondered how it would look if she remade it in a contemporary way using the bright solid fabrics that she liked to work with. After completing Redux 117, named for the remade 117 blocks of the antique quilt, Marge felt that she brought those blocks back to life through her modern adaptation.
