Featured Quilt - Charting "Phases"
Interstitial Phases #3 by Timna Tarr was featured in the Abstract category (Sponsored by Sew Steady) at the 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival. Timna's quilt uses the concept of repeating circles to chart the different types of phases we experiences in our lifetime. She says, "Phases of life, phases of the moon, and phases of color were in my thoughts as I pieced this quilt. Everything is interstitial and transitioning."

While we wait until next July's show, relive this year's show, or see it for the first time if you missed out, in full. |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Two-Color "Give and Take"
"Give and Take" by Marge Tucker
Give and Take was made using a technique where you layer two fabrics on the top of each other, cut curves free-form, and then reshuffle them to get two reverse images. Once completing that technique, Marge cut her images into squares and then made half-square triangles to create the graphic look of the quilt. She says, "Long improvisational pieced curves in black and white were cut into squares and then sewn into half square triangles. The quilt is visually graphic with black and white curves "breaking through" the angled lines of the blocks. While quilting, I was thinking of relationships; how much compromise goes into them, how at times you take more than you give and at other times you give more than you take. Relationships are never black and white."
