Featured Quilt - Best in Show at Festival of Quilts 2025

Twisted by Simone Steuxner won the Handi Quilter Best in Show award at this year's Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, England. Featuring a cavalcade of pointed stars, triangles, and more, these shapes "twist" together to form one terrific award-winning quilt. The judges at the Festival of Quilts had this to say about Simone's quilt, "The variety of techniques is admirable. It is beautifully embellished and the choice of modern colours is well balanced. The unique custom machine quilting and appliqué are exceptional." Congratulations Simone!

Marge Tucker and Dorie Hruska Make a Delightful Debut!

Dresdens and Continuous Quilting are on the Docket Today

Putting a fresh spin on the classic Dresden pattern, Marge Tucker uses strip sets of different widths and lengths to craft a sleek, modern aesthetic. She also demonstrates the advantages of no-marking modern machine quilting with a walking foot. Plus, Dorie Hruska introduces the concept of using connectors — an easy and efficient technique that allows your quilting design to travel smoothly from one intersection to another, saving both time and effort while creating clean, continuous lines.

"Whiles I Yet Live: Matriarchy and Generational Exchange in Gee’s Bend" Exhibition on Display at the National Quilt Museum

Get a Glimpse at Quilts from Gee's Bend

From the National Quilt Museum: "A testament to the survival of ancestral knowledge systems, the exhibition, Whiles I Yet Live: Matriarchy and Generational Exchange in Gee’s Bend presents a selection of over twenty quilts, spanning nearly a century of artistic practice within the community. This exhibition borrows its title from the 1955 song “Give Me My Flowers” by The Consolers, which inspired the later Christian Gospel performed by Reverend James Cleveland. The hymn was re-recorded by Boykin-based quilters Mary Ann Pettway, China Pettway, Lorene Pettway, and Nancy Pettway in 2016."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Bevy of Batik Tulips

"Batik Triple Tulips" by Lynette S. Warren

Batik Triple Tulips was created from a traditional pattern that Lynette found in a book by Dolores Hinson. Lynette likes to do a scrappy look when it comes to traditional quilts, meaning not every piece of fabric has to match or be cohesive. For example, the stems of the tulips are two different pieces of fabric, and she utilized different and diverse batiks throughout the quilt to deviate from a traditional feel. To put her own spin on the quilt, she added some borders that weren't in the original pattern.
