Featured Quilt - Best Hand Workmanship Award at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2025
Third Spool's The Charm by Barbara Korengold won the AQS Best Hand Workmanship Award at AQS QuiltWeek - Paducah 2025. Barbara hand pieced, hand appliquéd, and hand embroidered this entire quilt over a period of three years from start to finish, with the only thing applied by machine being the piping binding. The quilt takes its name from the fact that for the first time Barbara had to purchase a third spool of quilting thread, meaning she used more thread in this quilt than she's ever used in a quilt before. The designs were inspired by American coverlets, starting with the center and evolving from there.
After viewing the quilt, be sure to click the Quilt Video tab to watch an interview between Michelle Renee Hiatt and Barbara from the floor of AQS QuiltWeek – Lancaster 2024 where they discuss her quilt and go into it in more detail. |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Time For Candy!

"Candy Corn" by Beth Cunningham
When Beth had a show coming up at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, she needed a new topic to cover beyond bugs, since she'd already shown them, so she figured, "Why not candy?" It was right around Halloween when she began to plan this project, and candy corn was her favorite candy, so that was the beginning of Candy Corn. Beth calls what she did in this piece "super embellishing", because every inch of each piece of candy is covered with some design aspect, and not only with just one, but multiple layers of embroidery and embellishment on top of each other so that you get the depth needed.
