Featured Quilt - "Says She Talks to Angels"
Kim Lacy's (Show 2606) beautiful quilt, Angels in the Architecture II, won Best Sewing Machine Workmanship - Innovative at this year's Spring Quilt Festival. Kim says of her angelic work, "In chopping and rearranging these pieces of dupioni silk with ammonites painted upon them, the wings of angels seemed to appear."
Spinning Spools - Lesson 06 - How to Sew the Blocks Together
Alex says the sewing together of the blocks is very important and can be a little tricky. You need to do it right so the blades of the pinwheel come out correctly. See how Alex handles this part of making the Spinning Spools quilt.
Join Alex LIVE TODAY on Monday, May 24, 2021 @ 10am PST, 1pm EST, and 6pm London time. All classes are recorded so they can be viewed later.
Gale Carson loves exposing people to unique textiles and showing how to put these fascinating fabrics to use. In our new show, she will show you how to handle certain fabrics, how to sew on them, and more.
Shot cotton is fabric where the cotton warp yarns (the vertical yarns on a fabric) and weft yarns (the horizontal yarns on a fabric) are different colors, producing the trademark shot effect when colors appear to shimmer and move depending on how the light falls. This adds extra depth and luminosity to your quilts!
Did you know? Oakshott's Grayshott, Lakes, Lipari, Ruby Reds, Scandinavia and Sorbet collections share a common warp yarn, so all of these bundles combine beautifully together!
The Quilt Show Puzzle: Pretty Polar Bears In Progress
"Polar Bears" (In Progress) by Sandra Mollon
When Sandra got the call to be a guest on The Quilt Show, she knew that she wanted to bring something special to the table in addition to her fabulous landscape quilts. So, she brought a stunning quilt in progress, Polar Bears, which upon first glance you wouldn't be able to tell wasn't already finished. Based on a photo by Deb Simon, and featuring a hand painted sky amongst the rocks and water that are standards of her landscape quilts, it will certainly be a sight to see when Sandra is finished with it.
What do they have in common? They are both about color and value. And value is what you get at The Quilt Show, along with some amazing tips about color and design.
