Lisa Ellis' Judge's Choice at Houston International Quilt Festival 2024
Lisa Ellis talks about her selection for a Judge's Choice Award at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2024. Lisa selected the quilt Millstones by Tetiana Bohachuk, and if you are out and about in the Houston area this weekend you can see this beautiful quilt in all its glory at the 50th Anniversary Edition of the Houston Quilt Show.
Here's Tetiana's artist statement about her quilt:
"Inspired by Vasyl Symonenko’s poem, ‘Millstones,’ my quilt embodies the resilience of Ukrainians. Millstones are reflected in Ukrainian folk motifs, symbolizing endurance through the 20th century’s trials. Crafted with care, they honor hard work and kinship across generations. Each patch tells a story of beauty, echoing the spirit of my resilient people.”
See the quilt for yourself this week at the 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival, which takes place at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas from October 31, 2024 through November 3, 2024, with Preview Night occurring on October 30, 2024.
