Watch the "25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee" Exhibit Documentary

A short documentary on the 25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee exhibit that was on display at The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts from March 1 through July 28, 2024 recently won three Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards. This short captured the exhibit which "is an artistic statement from the international community about human displacement, immigration, and solidarity. It is an aggregation of 25 million hand-sewn stitches, each representing a single displaced human being as counted in the UN’s High Commissioner on Refugees 2019 report."

 

More About The Exhibit and Documentary from the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts:

 

"25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee is an artistic statement from the international community about human displacement, on view at WMQFA from March 1 - July 28, 2024. Explore the creation, installation, and impact of this powerful exhibition with Jennifer Kim Sohn, the artist who conceived the project; panel makers and WMQFA volunteers Nina Edelman and Helen Lambron; WMQFA artist in residence Noora Badeen; and museum staff.

 

The exhibition includes 25 million hand-sewn stitches, each representing a single displaced human being. The smaller panels are bound to 407 muslin banners. Building the physical representation of this statistic required participation from 2,300 stitches from 37 countries and all 50 U.S. states."

 

The documentary won the Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards for:

 

 - Outstanding Achievement for Human Interest Short and Long Form Content

 - Outstanding Craft Achievement for Graphics Arts/Motion Graphics/Art Direction/Set Design

 - Outstanding Crafts Achievement for Editing -Short Form Content

 

25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee​ was on display at The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts in Cedarburg, WI from March 1, 2024 through July 28, 2024.

A surreal exhibit. I wishI could see this up front and personal. An excellent documentary!!!!
