Featured Quilt - Sue Nickels' Judge's Choice Ribbon at Houston 2025

Visual Voyage by Inger Blood received Sue Nickels' Judge's Choice Ribbon (Sponsored by Organ Needles for Sewing, Knitting, and Felting) at Houston International Quilt Festival 2025. Using, with permission from Kari Schell, "On Point Quilter" as her design source, Inger explains how she created the look of Visual Voyage"I experimented with modern design and gray values of cotton fabrics. Traditional star blocks and the surrounding area were designed in EQ8 and paper pieced. The black fabric is Radiance to create a crisp/shiny look."

Warrior Women with Renée Fleuranges-Valdes

Quilts Built with Strength, Courage, and Resilience

Renée Fleuranges-Valdes begins by introducing a warrior woman—an embodiment of strength, courage, and resilience. To her, a warrior is not defined by conflict, but by the quiet power and grace she carries within. Every fabric choice becomes part of this woman's unfolding story. With care, Renée decides on each detail—the stance of the body, the flow of the hair, the adornments that speak to purpose and identity. Finally, she explores how different backgrounds can enhance or distract from the figure's narrative.
