Turn Landscapes Into Quilts With Turned Edge Piecing
Vicki Conley shares her technique for piecing a graphic landscape in our latest show. She begins with a design transferred to a stabilizer, that when fused to the fabric gives body and acts like an interfacing. Shapes can then be auditioned on the design wall where final visual decisions are made. Then fabric fused shapes are assembled in a layering and turned edge fashion before being stitched together using an almost invisible zig zag stitch.

"Red Skies At Night, Sailor's Delight" by Joyce Becker
Red Skies At Night, Sailor's Delight is Joyce's husband's favorite quilt of hers. Using both hand-dyed and commercial fabrics that she married together with thread, Joyce created the stunning sky of the title featuring beautiful hues of red, yellow, and orange. As for the water, Joyce painted it herself as she could not find fabric that matched what she was looking for.
