Featured Quilt - First Place American Patchwork & Quilting Super Scrappy Quilting Challenge at QuiltCon 2024
Illusion by Beth Shutty won 1st Place in the American Patchwork & Quilting Super Scrappy Quilting Challenge at QuiltCon 2024. Beth says of her "Super Scrappy" quilt: "Illusion was made for QuiltCon's Quilting Scrap challenge. This original design quilt was created on EQ8 using an altered grid and a basic diagonal strip block. The block sizes range from 4" to 36" with both square and rectangular block sizes. Each block is a 4-patch of colorful diagonally pieced strips with a solid neutral center strip and a black and white print strip. There are over 50 different fabrics in this quilt. I half emptied my basket of 1" wide scraps on this gorgeous quilt.
The 2" by 36" blocks were the most difficult to make because of the need for narrow long diagonal strips. The quilt is spiral walking foot quilted on a domestic machine interspersing straight stitched rows with decorative serpentine stitched rows."

It's All About Having Fun with These Colorful Blocks
Cathy Perlmutter shares a pre-cut friendly method of improv foundation piecing using newsprint paper in our brand new show. She says it is a cross between improv log cabin piecing and paper piecing, but without all the stress of measuring, marking, pins, and stitch lines.
Then see how to make a simple "Tent" block made using simple strips of fabric that when mixed with other blocks to create a feathered star or kaleidoscope design.
