Featured Quilt - 1st Place Improvisation at QuiltCon 2024
Reconceived by Jennifer Candon won 1st Place - Improvisation (Sponsored by SAQA) at QuiltCon 2024. Jennifer's quilt could be seen as a prime example of if something doesn't work the first time, switch it up and it will turn out the way it is supposed to, as evidenced by the title of the quilt.
She says, "Preconceived ideas of composition often get in the way. I am learning to have faith in myself as an artist and realizing the importance of letting an artwork evolve and become its own thing during the making process. I began work on this piece with a completely different composition and color scheme in mind. As it grew, technical and design realities made me realize that my original conception was not the best path forward. I gave up control and followed a new direction - one that was unclear but was an improvisational collaboration between the materials and maker."

"Le Monde" by Judy Ahlborn
Le Monde was a turning point for Judy in being able to print a large whole cloth on a solid piece of fabric through Spoonflower. The quilt was created as part of an art group challenge for the special exhibit, Digital Alchemy: Quiltmakers and Spoonflower, at the Pacific International Quilt Festival in 2015, where each member was to make a piece the same size and use the same flattened-out edge of the globe image. It did not need to feature all the continents, but you did need to feature the globe shape as they were all being hung on the same wall together.
