Featured Quilt - Ricky's Book Inspires Award Winner

Ricky's novel, Lizzy Albright and the Attic Window, has now done more than just be a wonderful read for quilters the world over, it has now inspired an award-winning quilt. Cindy Bell Neville's quilt, Lizzy's Jumping Jacks, won Honorable Mention - Wall Quilt at the 2021 Virtual Spring Quilt Festival. Cindy's says of her inspiration, "Lizzy's Jumping Jacks was inspired by the book Lizzy Albright and the Attic Window by Ricky Tims and Kat Bowser. During Lizzy's journey in a magic land, she comes across flowers called Jumping Jacks. Ricky's hand-dyed fabrics were perfect for colorful flowers, and I had a wonderful time playing with thread color to make the flowers come alive."

Still Influencing Art After So Long

We recently featured a Textile Talks from the International Quilt Museum discussing the evolution of Abstract design in quilts over the previous fifty years. Today we'd like to go more in depth with that exhibit, called the single most influential quilt exhibition ever, when the Whitney Museum of Arts covered its walls with antique quilts in 1971 and its current revival in 2021.
