Featured Quilt - "Baby, You're A Firework"
Artists are often inspired by other artists. Whether it's painting, architecture, quilting, or any other medium, you can usually see a hint of someone else's work. Such is the case with Peter Hayward and his quilt, Fireworks, which was featured in the Alternative Techniques category at Houston in 2019. Peter says of his work, "I wanted to adapt and extend Jinny Beyer's concept of hand-sewn diamonds to my fused interwoven strip technique and use tulle shading and color degradation to enhance the 3-D effect as the fireworks explode, expand, and dissipate into the night. In all, there are well over 25,000 patches." All those patches certainly add up to make one magnificent quilt!

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Get To The Roundup
"Western Roundup" by Cathy Wiggins
Cathy says of Western Roundup, "With this piece, I wanted to bring the look of the traditional pieced quilt into the world of quilted leather. Beginning with one-colour cowhide, I created the illusion of pieced blocks with leather dyes. I wanted to use all portions of the hide so I layered the scraps to create the irregular shape at the bottom. No part of the hide was wasted. I then went in search of the perfect western-styled conchos to embellish the design."
