Featured Quilt - What Do You Get When You Cross A Banana with a Pickle?
Bananicklenation by Steph Skardal was part of the Modern Traditionalism category featured at QuiltCon 2023. She says of her work, "This quilt was inspired by the shapes and bright colors of pop art combined with a present day mashup of banana and pickle mashup! The shape was created digitally and pieces were appliquéd on a traditional block layout structure as a nod to Andy Warhol art. This quilt blends the "old" pop art with new techniques as well as a mix of construction. A quilting motif was created from a banana drawing by my then 8 year old daughter and digitally modified to create a repeating banana motif."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Playing With Rings In Reverse

"Ring Cycles" by Lessa Siegele
Ring Cycles Reversed features the same pattern as Lessa's quilt Ring Cycles, except that she uses a dark background instead of a light one. Lessa loves movement in her quilts, but this one was done all with straight piecing, and while not based on a historic quilt from Australia like many of Lessa's other works, its design still originates in an older traditional style quilt. The original Ring Cycles title stems from Lessa's husband's love of the Ring Cycles opera and the many circular nine-patches creating rings throughout.
