Featured Quilt - Best of Show at Houston International Quilt Festival 2025
We are proud to announce that our very own Ricky Tims has won Best of Show at Houston International Quilt Festival 2025 with his quilt, The Visitation. Ricky received the The Handi Quilter Best Of Show Award (Sponsored by Handi Quilter) for his stunning quilt featuring his favorite animal, the raven. Congratulations Ricky!
We'll let the artist tell you a little bit more about the quilt himself: "Original hand-dyed fabrics were assembled using curved piecing (not paper-piecing). The raven was created with bobbin-embroidered feathers and invisible turned-edge appliqué. The moon is from an original photo that was digitized and printed. The raven symbolizes foreboding darkness. The clock suggests using time wisely. The tree represents wisdom, not dead, but dormant. The quilted leaves suggest spring will soon emerge. The time suggests midnight approaches, but a new day will dawn."
Once you're done viewing the 79” x 78” quilt in full, be sure to look at the amazing detail photos to see all the work that Ricky put into his quilt. One such detail that you may not have noticed upon your initial look at the quilt is that Ricky stitched an original poem into the edge of the quilt that travels entirely around it. Ricky reproduced this poem on the label, and you can read it in the description under the About The Quilt tab in the gallery. |

We Have a Small Correction to Make
On Monday, Alex Anderson and Bob Ruggiero of Quilts, Inc. announced the winners of the 2025 Houston International Quilt Festival, including The Quilt Show's Ricky Tims winning Best of Show. During the video presentation, there was error when announcing Pat Durbin's First Place win in the Naturescape category. While the winner was correct, Pat's quilt Glimpse Into the Forest, the wrong quilt was shown. This has been amended and we'd like to again present the winners of the 2025 Houston International Quilt Festival (for those who haven't seen it, or would like to watch it again). |

"Love Birds" by Kathy Doughty
When Kathy Doughty's quilt, Love Birds, showed up on the set, we thought for sure Alex was going to sneak it home in her luggage. We aren't sure if it was because of the polka dots, the Kaffe Fassett fabric, or the completely improv, organic style of appliqué. What do you think?
