Featured Quilt - Second Place Animal Kingdom at Houston 2025

Family Ties by Junko Sugahara won Second Place - Animal Kingdom (Sponsored by French European Dress Forms) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2025. Junko says, "My friends happily talk about and show me pictures of their lovely dogs! They look so happy! Our beloved dogs are like family members, sharing our joy with us in happy times and gently supporting us when we’re sad. I made this quilt featuring the dogs around me."

Julia McLeod Demonstrates Crazy Piecing

It's Not So Crazy to Think You Can Do This Piecing Technique Too

In our latest show, Julia McLeod demos how to piece a large block that is cut and reassembled multiple times, resulting in a 'crazy quilt' look—without the frustration of working with numerous tiny, fraying pieces. The crazy blocks work well for jacket panels, embroidery, and block quilts.

The Complete "Laurel Ridge" Story is Now Available

All Chapters Are Out Now

In addition to designing Laurel Ridge, our 2025 Block Of the Month, Lynn Wilder also created a story to go along with the quilt. For every month of the BOM, there was a corresponding chapter of the story that went along with it. Now with the end of the year only a month away, the story is now complete and available to read.

Lynn's Laurel Ridge quilt design pays homage to the courageous women of the 1930s American Depression era who were employed by the newly established Work Progress Administration (WPA) as Packhorse Librarians, the pioneering traveling 'bookmobile'. The story Lynn told follows some of these women on their journey, and you can now read their tale in full.

The Laurel Ridge story is available in its monthly chapter segments as they were released throughout the year, and now as a complete novel to read in one convenient document. To download the complete story, scroll to the bottom of the page and find the section labeled Laurel Ridge - The Complete Story. Happy reading!

Lea says of Turkish Bread Boys, "This portrait quilt is a window into the lives of two young men. Their culture, language, and religion may be foreign to us, but the energy, commitment to family and entrepreneurial spirit of these young boys is universally recognized."
