Featured Quilt - Second Place Pictorial at Houston 2025

Arcane Snap by Kestrel Michaud won Second Place - Pictorial (Sponsored by World of Quilts Travel) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2025. Kestrel says of the inspiration behind her quilt, "This boy and his dog were in the right place at the right time to witness an Arcane Snap, which is like a magical earthquake. Over time, magical energy builds up pressure until it finally lets go. Just like a tremor, some snaps are benign. The one shown in this quilt is no more than a very colorful light show, but sometimes snaps can have powerful, lasting, and unexpected effects on the surrounding area."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Zany Zig Zag Quilt

"Zig Deco Zag" by Julia McLeod

Zig Deco Zag features a technique where Julia overlays sheer fabric over cotton prints using Free Fuse powder. Since you can't make a quilt with sheer blouse weight fabric, Julia fused the sheer fabric to quilter's cotton and then pieced it with very simple half-square triangles to create a depth and layering you wouldn't normally see.
