Featured Quilt - Third Place Handmade at Houston 2025
Peacock by Naomi Ootomo won Third Place - Handmade (Sponsored by Fat Quarter Shop) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2025. Naomi's quilt has been lauded for its handwork, because in addition to winning this award it also received the Best Hand Workmanship Award at AQS QuiltWeek - Daytona Beach 2024. The inspiration for this amazing piece comes from its namesake, showcasing all the beauty and majesty one would find when seeing a peacock in real life. Naomi says, "I can’t forget the beauty of a peacock feather I saw at my grandfather’s house as a child. I loved the color of the peacock’s feathers. This quilt was created with the image of a peacock spreading its wings. The quilting designs were also created with the image of its feathers. While I was making this quilt, beautiful colored fabrics made me happy."

So Much Has Happened For Her Since She Was Last on the Show
On our new show, learn what excites Julia McLeod about working with and seeking out lustrous fabrics such as silk ties, kimono silks, and Uzbek Ikat. We look at quilts made with these luxurious materials, including her most recent work, which involves overlaying prints (and antique quilts) with sheer fabrics to create a sense of depth and layering while keeping the piece lightweight.

"McTangerine Roses" by Lynn Droege, Quilted by Lisa Sipes
McTangerine Roses by Lynn Droege was made using The Quilt Show's 2011 Block Of the Month pattern, Ruffled Roses by Sue Garman. After making the quilt, Lynn told Lisa that it was the perfect quilt for her to quilt due to the bright colors. Lisa happily agreed, and once quilted, Lynn submitted it into shows where it received an Honorable Mention at Road to California and three ribbons at a show in Wisconsin.
