Featured Quilt - First Place Modern Traditionalism at QuiltCon 2025
Two styles meet in the Modern Traditionalism category by taking what one thinks of as a traditional quilt, style, or block and brings the Modern quilting aesthetic to it. The Pointy Beast by Susan Braverman is a great example of this style, and that is why it won First Place - Modern Traditionalism (Sponsored by String & Story) at QuiltCon 2025. She says, "This quilt updates the classic New York Beauty block with large scale and striking high-contrast colors. It says "look at me" from across the room. The design continues my series exploring the interplay of an inset grid layout. Dense grid quilting anchors the design's structured form. A variety of thread colors were used to create nuanced value shifts throughout." |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A "Fantasia" of Color |
"Fantasia" by Joen Wolfrom
Joen loves log cabins, and used to make a lot of them in the seventies and eighties. Fantasia is made with an offset log cabin, meaning the blocks are half the width on one side as they are on the other side. Trying to decided what to use in the quilt, Joen pulled out a Paula Nadelstern fabric that had been sitting in her closet for years, and decided Fantasia was the perfect opportunity to cut it up and make use of it.
