Featured Quilt - Best Handwork at Quilt National '25

Nimble, Nimble by Heidi Parkes won Best Handwork (Sponsored By The Dairy Barn Arts Center) at Quilt National '25. Heidi's inspirational quilt was created during a time when she needed to feel nimble like her favorite animal, the rabbit.

She says, "This hand sewn Diary Quilt grew with me from August 2023 through February 2024, a time when I was navigating shoulder tendonitis, shifting from a home studio to a public-facing artist’s residency, launching an exciting yearlong quiltmaking course, and beginning my first daily prescription. For me, a Diary Quilt is different from an autobiography. Textile artifacts stand in as symbols, and perspective shifts from aerial map, to tracing, and to outlining a calendar. During a time when I desired to be nimble, like my favorite animal the rabbit, I cast a spell as I stitched."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Quilt That's Quite Hexing

"I Must Be Hexed" by Cheryl L. See

I Must Be Hexed is Cheryl's first hexagon quilt. Featuring 17,802 hexagons, and taking 2 years and 9 months to complete, it was made using English Paper Piecing and freezer paper with most of the hexagons hand drawn using a template. So in Cheryl's own words, she made it the hard way. A very large quilt, Cheryl says that at the time the whole quilt had only been viewed once in its entirety when it was displayed at the Virginia Quilt Museum in 2013.

See more of Cheryl's quilts in How to Piece Hexagons and Diamonds with Cheryl L See.
