Featured Quilt - Best Original Design at AQS QuiltWeek New England 2026

Photographers by Hiroko Miyama and Masanobu Miyama won Best Original Design at AQS QuiltWeek - New England 2026 and Third Place - Wall Quilts - Quilter's Choice (Sponsored by Elna USA) at AQS QuiltWeek - Paducah 2026. It seems quite fitting that Hiroko Miyama and Masanobu's quilt won Best Original Design, as it tells quite the story with its design. They had this to say about its inspiration, and the hours of work that went into making it come to life.

"Granddaughters Natsumi and Fuyuka are currently addicted to taking photos of wild birds. In front of them, bamboo leaves shine in backlight. Dogs Yuri and Ponta join them for a photo session in early winter. Wild birds and animals also gather there. The birds are original embroidery, and it took 75 hours of data creation and repeated prototyping until the results were satisfactory. Fuyuka's face is composed of more than 50 hand-dyed fabrics. Her thin glasses frames are made with appliqué, too."
