Featured Quilt - Second Place Small Wall Quilts: 1st Entry in an AQS Paducah Quilt Contest at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2025

Bee-ing Thankful for Sunflowers by Holly Batterman won Second Place - Small Wall Quilts: 1st Entry in an AQS Paducah Quilt Contest (Sponsored by YLI Threads) at AQS QuiltWeek - Paducah 2025. Holly says, "This quilt was made for the Beach Cities Quilters Guild (Mission Viejo, CA) Bee-Thankful quilt challenge. My quilt was inspired by photographs I took at our local community garden, which was buzzing with bees enjoying all the garden flowers, including huge sunflowers. The challenge required the use of a hexagon, a piece of twine, 2 charms, and three assigned fabrics. I quilted it using a sit-down longarm machine and embellished it with Swarovski crystals.

Brandy Maslowski Demonstrates Hexie Variations

View Various Ways to Add Hexies to Your Next Project

Brandy Maslowski enjoys designing quilts that feature traditional patterns presented in a contemporary manner. She shares multiple approaches—including machine piecing, English paper piecing (EPP), fusing, and hand painting—for using a single shape, along with a monochromatic color scheme, to create a unified design across an entire quilt. She then discusses how your quilting can enhance the geometric design even further, all in our brand new show.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Good Dog

"Sherri" by Sue Bleiweiss

Sherri was made by Sue for an exhibit at the Houston International Quilt Festival entitled It's Raining Cats and Dogs. Created in her coloring book fabric collage style, Sue's quilt was inspired by her dog Sherri, not by her mother-in-law who also happens to share the same name. To make sure this difference was clear, and there was no confusion around the holidays, Sue had to spell the name on the doghouse with an "i" instead of a "y".
