Featured Quilt - A High-Flying Quilt
Hollis Chatelain's quilt, High Flying Rüppell's Griffon Vulture, was exhibited as part of the Soul Stories: Threads of Existence exhibit at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2025.
She writes, "Vultures are our friends and play an indispensable role in our ecosystem, despite their reputation as omens of doom. They are highly social, living in large flocks and showing no aggression. The critically endangered Rüppell's Griffon Vulture, native to Africa's Sahel region, faces threats from poisoning by poachers and farmers. It holds the record as the highest-flying bird, soaring to over 37,000 feet, and staying aloft for over seven hours a day."

New Exhibits at the Texas Quilt Museum

Coming in January!
The Winter/Spring seasons at the Texas Quilt Museum once again show the power of creativity, diversity, and skill that is ingrained in the fabric (literally!) of the art form with three new exhibits: Prizewinners from the International Quilt Festival 2025, Art to Art Challenge from The National African American Quilt Guild, and The Traveling Artist: Works of Denise Burkitt. These exhibits will be on display from January 8 - April 25, 2026.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Wholecloth Beauty

"Duchess Reigns" by Leah Day
Duchess Reigns is a stunning wholecloth quilt by Leah Day that was marked, trapuntoed, and outline quilted while the quilt was white, and colored after the fact. This was done because the quilt was so complex to mark and she didn't have a big enough light box to mark a dark colored fabric. At this point, Leah then hand-dyed the quilt burgundy and quilted it with white Isacord thread to provide a wonderful contrast with her now darkly colored fabric.
