Featured Quilt - Creativity Comes "Waltzing" In

On Sunday we featured a quilt from the Breaking Rules, Honoring Tradition Exhibit that was held in Chandler, Arizona. Today, we continue our look into the exhibit with Betty Hahn's quilt, Waltzing Silks. Featuring an array of colorful fabrics that dance across the quilted canvas, Betty's quilt was created in a free flowing manner without much planning. She says, "My paintings are created digitally, playing with color, line, shape and texture. I'm playing more than working, letting ideas flow into and through my fingers, without much conscious thought. I always feel like I'm watching it become."

Tina Craig Demonstrates The Wonder Window

Opening Up a "Window" of Possibilities

Our latest show has Tina Craig introducing her innovative and truly unique Wonder Window technique for English Paper Piecing (EPP) fussy cutting, which allows for identifying and precise cutting of any shape—eliminating the need for acrylic templates. After demonstrating how to assemble the Wonder Window, she shares how to master simple pattern repeats, symmetrical repeats, mirror-image fussy cutting, and pattern matching with larger designs.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: "Sunflowers" For the Summer

"Sunflowers" by Heidi Kaisand

Sunflowers is Heidi's own design, a variation on a block that she found one time that she liked, that really plays with a diagonal grid. It was made using all batiks, featuring a variety of standout colors. The wool appliqué sunflowers that adorn the quilt were needle-felted on Heidi's machine and then hand stitched onto the quilt.
