A Quilt Three Years and 450,000 Stitches In The Making, Ricky Tims Has Two Terrific Classes For You, "The Dresses Of The Empresses: The Staging of the "Worth" Exhibition" by Loïc Prigent, Dee LIVE: Sparkling Star Block, In The Store - Costeira Fat Quarters and 10 Inch Squares, A Puzzle Bursting With Creativity

Featured Quilt - Three Years and 450,000 Stitches Later...

Beausoleil (Lovely Fair Sun) by Mary Lorenz was featured in the Pieced category (Sponsored by AccuQuilt - June Tailor) at the 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival. Using the Jacobean Journey digital download by Hoop Sisters as its design source, with embroidery designs by Sharon Schamber, Mary's quilt was the culmination of years of work and hundreds of thousands of stitches.

She says, "It took three years, 450,000 stitches, and too many test blocks, fabrics, and threads to count. This is the quilt that made me want to learn machine embroidery. I was dazzled by the original quilt and after quite some time, felt that I could tackle this journey. With the support of my machine embroidery friends and endless hours of advice and critiques, I have a piece that I am quite proud of."

"The Dresses Of The Empresses: The Staging of the "Worth" Exhibition" by Loïc Prigent

"What is the Origin of Haute Couture?"

From Loïc Prigent: "Discover the behind-the-scenes of the exhibition dedicated to the house of Worth at the Petit Palais! Who is Charles Frederick Worth? Who is Marie Venet? How can a fashion house last a century? For months, our cameras had exclusive access to the staging of this major retrospective. We followed every step, from the restoration to the final installation of the iconic pieces created by the father of haute couture."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A "Burst" of Modern Dresdens

"Burst" by Marge Tucker

As most quilters do, Marge gets a lot of inspiration from looking at the world around her to light that creative spark. The sight that inspired Burst was the logo at the top of business building she spotted while stopped at a light. The logo was wedges that were different lengths and different colors arranged in a circle. To Marge's eyes, it was the most amazing Dresden Plate design that she had ever seen. Holding onto that idea for a very long time, she was finally able to start working on it in a workshop, where it eventually grew into Burst. It won Best Machine Workmanship in the Mid-Century Modern category at PIQF 2019 and the Best Machine Quilting - Frameless award at QuiltCon 2019.
