Featured Quilt - Second Place Piecing at QuiltCon 2025
Electric Slide by Steph Skardal won Second Place - Piecing (Sponsored by Aurifil) at QuiltCon 2025. Steph says, "Electric Slide is the second in a series of exploration of curved foundation paper piecing at a very narrow size in an original composition. It features high contrasting colors to draw the eye to the piecing. Creating Contours to Bring Faces to Life
Phyllis Cullen starts off her demonstration of Facial Contour Quilting by discussing the six planes of the face, explaining that drawing lines along the natural contours adds dimension and depth to the individual. She notes that careful choices in thread color, type, and tone lead to more realistic skin tones, shadows, and hair color. Plus, you'll learn how to bring life to the eye with paint pens.

"Desert's Glory" by Lois Podolny
In Arizona there is a cactus called the night-blooming cereus, and when Lois moved there and saw the flower from the cactus for the very first time, she spent three days taking pictures of it. The result of that photo-taking excursion was Desert's Glory. This was a game-changing quilt for her as she started quilting images into the background with this quilt. Lois feels that making Desert's Glory turned her into a real art quilter. It won Best Machine Workmanship at AQS Lancaster 2013.
