Featured Quilt - Second Place American Patchwork & Quilting Transparency Quilting Challenge at QuiltCon 2025
Square Bloom by Jo Wollschlaeger won Second Place in the American Patchwork & Quilting Transparency Quilting Challenge at QuiltCon 2025. Jo created the quilt because she wanted to make something using one of Pantone's signature colors of the year. She says, "This quilt is a response to Pantone's 2024 color of the year, Peach Fuzz, a color I find very challenging. (I will never say a color is ugly, just challenging.) By stacking enough translucent peach squares on top of each other, I arrived at a deep, vibrant orange ... a color I love. The squares radiate out from the center, like the petals of a rose. The quilting echoes the 1/2" x 1/2" grid from the original layout."

Dee Christopher's New York Beauty Class Is Coming Soon |
|
|
|
Create a Unique New York Beauty Quilt in Dee Christopher's FREE Interactive Facebook/YouTube Live Class, Starting April 26, 2025!
This six week "Choose Your Own Adventure" project allows you to select fabrics and create blocks from 5 unique patterns, arranging them into a layout that reflects your personal style for a beautiful, one-of-a-kind quilt.
Get your project supplies to make a 34" x 34" quilt. Dee recommends that you have:
- 1.5 yards or 10-12 fat quarters of low volume light fabrics for your quilt background
- 2.5 yards or 12-18 fat quarters for paper piecing and spikes
To make a larger quilt, you will (of course!) need additional fabrics.
No pattern purchase is necessary - the block patterns will be available as a FREE download when the class begins.
Tim Holtz fabrics were used in the quilt above. We still have a selection of these fabrics available in the store if you'd like to start gathering your fabrics before class begins. |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Flying "Jewel" |

"Jewel of the Rainforest" by Phyllis Cullen
Sometimes Phyllis likes to make animal quilts in addition to her portrait quilts. One such quilt is Jewel of the Rainforest, which is part of her series focusing on the endemic birds of Hawaii, whose subject is the critically endangered Palila bird. The technique she used to create the birds is called improvisational impressionist, which means instead of painting with paint dobs she is painting with little pieces of fabric.
