gimme-a-hug-and-a-kiss
Name of Maker: Geneva Carroll

Last May when my mother went into Hospice care I felt the need to make something simple and colorful.  I found a pack of 5" sqaures in my stash and set to work.  I made "X" blocks with the warm colors and "O" blocks with the cool colors.  I added some embroidery on the sashings using a sparkle thread.  When I showed it to my mom, she loved it.  I hung it in her apartment where it stayed until she passed away in July.  Whenever I would leave my mom, I always said to her, "Ok, mom, gimme a hug and a kiss."

A selfie of my daughter and her friend dressed to participate in a samba parade during their student year in Chile was the inspiration for this fabric collage quilt. It was quite a challenge to recreate their faces and flowers from printed and batik fabrics, but I'm quite pleased with how it came out.

"Samba Selfie" was accepted into the 2018 Pacific International Quilt Festival and won a ribbon for Visual Impact in the New Quilts of Northern California exhibit there. It was on also display at the 2019 Road to California show, the 2019 Spring Paducah show, and the 2019 Houston International Quilt Festival.
