The Endless Dance of the Ponytail is the cover of Leni's book, Photo-Inspired Art Quilts-From Composition to Finished Piece. It measures 29" x 30" and was created in 2008.

Take a closer look at the ponytail, Leni says, "Combining patterns in commercial fabric is what gets me motivated. Finding the unexpected pattern that does what I want in the ensemble is the thing that keeps me going."

In Leni's quilt, a delightful couple hangs out by the pool getting "lightly toasted."

Leni writes about her work,

"As I am a former photographer, my work begins with photographs I take of strangers, unaware of the camera, caught in those unremarkable and familiar moments that pass without notice or reflection. Backgrounds and environments are less important than the expressive body language that tells us so much about these people I have never met. Viewers are invited to bring their own life experiences to the story in each artwork."

"Gelato Girls" is a piece from Leni's "Park Bench Stories" exhibit.

Leni writes,

"I am a park bench.  I am no different whether I reside in New York, Santa Fe, Venice, Prague, Vienna or in any small town anywhere in the world.  I remain in place all seasons of the year, in all weather, year after year, gazing at the same scenery.

People come to visit me–some are regular visitors, some pass my way but once.  Children take a break from play; young lovers catch a moment alone; some are waiting, others make a phone call, have their lunch, rest after a long day, read or simply enjoy a beautiful day.

Some are hopeful, some are weary.  Some are peaceful, some are troubled.  Some come alone, others in pairs or groups.  Some stay a while, others take a quick break and move on.  I see them all but they never notice me."

Wendy writes, "This design is ribbon appliqué in a split stitch intertwined with a string of candlewicking knots in heavy thread. I love the shades of the primary colors and how the shapes dance with each other. I tested my free motion quilting with straight stitches and realized they needed to show a bit more. So I used the grey thread in a few places and continued to use different free motion quilting techniques. - straight lines, pebbles, flames and curls."
