Panning for Gold by Lea McComas won First Place Art-People, Portraits, and Figures at IQA Houston 2014. Lea says the quilt was inspired by an historical photograph of a gold miner working the river.  It is made with fused edge applique and thread painting.

You can learn how Lea creates her images in her TQS Portrait Quilts classroom.
