Description:
At the time of making Madder Circuit, Kim was actually growing Madder in her garden, but it wasn't hers that was used to dye this quilt. It was created using a machine sewn Shibori technique. To accomplish this, Kim folded the fabric origami-style, stitched it with the sewing machine, and then submerged it in the dye. After it was done, Kim was very interested in how the dye seeped into different parts of the fabric in different ways to create light and dark areas in the symmetry of folding. This gave her the opportunity to put the patterns together in a wonderfully graphic way.
