Paula Nadelstern at the Houston Quilt Show 2024
We were excited to see the wonderful Paula Nadelstern Exhibit at Houston 2024. Her quilts are always bold, exciting, and complex in design. Ricky will show you quilts from the exhibit and Lilo's interview with her on the floor of the show.
"Tales from Africa" Exhibit - Nike Okundaye
The Quilt Show.com talks with Oluwaseyi Awoyomi, Mama Nike's (Knee- Kah) daughter, about Mama Nike's mission to share the tradition of adire (Ah-dear-ay) and to continue the art form by passing on the legacy. Oluwseyi discusses her batik painted dress that can serves as both clothing or as a wall-hanging. It features the god of thunder that is bedazzled with crystals in to appeal to younger women. She also talks about the the fabric crown headwrap called a Gele (Gay-lee) that she is wearing. They look at her mother’s traditional works of resist paste (from Cassava) applied with chicken feather quills and also look at rafia tied (similar to tie-dye, Shibori) work with more contemporary color. They also talk about another piece of family tradition made by her mother of embroidery in the indigenous style using leftover thread/string from the early 70s. Mama Nike has been collecting and archiving the various art forms throughout Nigeria to keep the arts alive and thriving for future generations. The video concludes with a look at the "Tales from Africa" exhibit at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2024.

"One Quilter's Journey from the Middle Ages to the Stars" was Karen G. Fisher's Exhibit at the 2024 Houston International Quilt Festival. Karen combines quilting, art, and history to tell her story. You will love the techniques used and the meaning behind the quilts.
