    Need help with dye-ing

I got roped into teaching some young girl scouts how to dye... something I have never done.... Thank goodness not til later in spring... when the weather is better... as this will be done outdoors for the most part.... Heavens if they stain my carpet...

Does anyone know any links to educational web pages on dying?
    Where can I get supplies

Is rite dye or dynall suitable or should I get the real stuff with addative ? ie soda

Are there any safety measures I should take beside wearing your worse clothes and shoes that day? We will set up an eye flush station and have goggles for the girls to wear.... I only plan to do 4 girls at a time.

The girls will use their fabrics to make a quilt/ wall haning. As second part of the project.

Any other considerations I have not thought of?? After all this will be the blind leading the blind...

Hey maybe I will let them dye indoors... If they dye my carpet... I might be able to get new.... THAT IS A GREAT PLAN !!

Go to Dharma Trading Company. They have group kits for dyeing and good instructions on the website. Everything you will need for a dye session can be found there. Mostly just relax and have fun. Be sure to wear a mask when you mix the powders. I suggest an adult do this the night before. Don't try to save money by not useing PFD (prepared for dyeing) fabric. You will get more vivid color and use less dye with PFD.
Give each girl a square of fabric to use to wipe up spills and drips. Often those "rags" are the most interesting pieces at the end of the day.
    Enjoy!!!!! Betty Ann

Try looking on the internet for a tutorial or 2....there are several on youtube. Another source for information that I find interesting also.

        Anna,
Teresa did a whole tutorial on how to dye. I know she lives in Los Gatos, CA. You can do a search for her. I think the tutorials were in her blog. You can also use setacolor mixed in water to "dye". Setacolor is really a paint but you can dilute it with water. Have fun. Frances

I would suggest gloves but don't know where you could find any small enough.

I'm going to try with the RIT dyes and plan on using surgical or treatment gloves from Wal-Mart.
