"Afternoon Delight" was one of Sue Garman's favorite patterns. This wonderfully scrappy quilt is truly a delight to make with its combination of simple appliqué and Double Nine-Patch blocks and modified Shoo Fly blocks. Each month you will work on pieced and appliquéd blocks, and in the final month, you will assemble the blocks and add the outer border. The finished quilt measures approximately 86 1/2" inches square.

Let's use this Topic "Afernoon Delight Show and Tell" as a place to show off your beautiful blocks. That way, you know where to come to see what everyone is doing.

The topics that apply to each month are a good place to ask questions or make suggestions for each block.

AND when you post your photos to Social Media, like Instagram, Facebook, etc., use either of these hash tags so everyone there will be able to find our wonderful work:

I’m trying to put my picture in the message rather than an attachment. I did preview, but the picture was not there. Hope it works.

Shoo Fly pie is a PA Dutch specialty. I remember having it in Lancaster county years ago on a visit to Amish country.

If you like molasses or gingerbread, you will like shoo fly pie! Our local store didn’t have Redi Whip or Cool Whip
or whipping cream, which I would have liked. My husband was happy I left my sewing room, found the kitchen and remembered how to bake!

Terri, your fabrics are beautiful, as are those blocks. How was the Shoo Fly pie?

My first two nine patch blocks. I starched the fabric after I'd made the initial row sets, but that was wonderful. Really helped with the accuracy. Unfortunately, tomorrow I have to find a way to be a librarian from home for 40 hours a week. So more blocks next weekend.

Barbara, I loved your comment Isn't it fun to see the quilt taking shape. So I laid my blocks out to get a look at mine taking shape. My 5 applique blocks on the right side of the photo have not been edged stitched yet. Right now
my plan is to quilt as I go when I get 3 or 4 rows done, I will quilt that panel, do 3 or 4 more rows and quilt the next panel.
I plan to use a horizontal layout to get the illusion of on point design from the double nine patch.
Then use Marti Michelles encased seams method to add borders in a quilt as you go method. But plans may change.
I ordered

wool batting so I will be ready. Have not got a backing fabric yet. HelenW

Yes, I bought the pattern years ago from Sue Garman. I have made several of her patterns. I use the starch template method, but I use Spray Sizing instead of starch. I have even used Best Press sometimes. It is so fun seeing everyone’s blocks.
