I finished the coloring page for Christmas at Laurel Ridge. I know which fabrics I am going to use where - they are ordered and on the way. I don't color the applique blocks because I am going to replace them with pieced ones.

Pat, Don't bother, I was just trying to help you consider a lot of options. Sounds like you are on a roll.
Will be fun to watch your progress. HelenW

And because I'm lost in the thread, do you want to see the fabric the deer is on?

Those antlers have me close to worn out on applique, BUT I have a paper piecing pattern that allows you to vary sections to create a big variety of realistic looking snowflakes. I feel currently that I need to wait until I get closer to the finished look. I'm sure I'll be less worn out on applique by then.

I'm now pretty sure, I want to use the dark indigo as the background color. See my new mock up with that.

Pat I was just thinking maybe some additional applique would look good on your quilt. Did not have time to work up a good
idea, just took a couple screen shots and put it together in EQ8 using photos. I was thinking a silhouette type buck either in the
blocks or in the background area near the big applique. Just an idea that popped into my head. HelenW

Pat, They should work great. It is so much fun to see how the different mock ups look.
How about one with the medium blue where you used the white in the first one and the dark
blue in the second. Can you take a picture of the actual fabric laid close to the deer appliqué
center. I am assuming that you are using EQ8 with the color section, not your actual fabrics
    in the mock ups. HelenW

Helen, not flannels. Mixed but commercial prints and a majority batiks.

Pat, Hard to believe how different Laurel Ridge looks in your deer quilt. Very pretty. I am looking at your fabrics. Are they flannel? They look very soft and I have made a lot of flannel quilts. The five inch
blocks might be a real challenge because the seams are so bulky with flannel. You might want to make up a sample block to see if it works well for you. Your mock up looks great. HelenW

I was really excited to see the coloring page. I've had a long-term project that I was getting closer to being ready to sew, but the last hold up was the design.

I have an out-of-print pattern called Stag Nation by Sewn Into the Fabric by Pieces of Our Lives. I had a slowly developing set of fabrics including an original inspiration print of a large snowflake on an indigo field. Moda did a series of these lines. I had this one.

My plan was to eventually make the deer center and then make a medallion quilt. Goal size was 90 inches. In my opinion, this makes a queen size quilt with some nice side drop so no one has to fight for the cover.

When I saw Laurel Ridge, I thought I could use Lynn's design to create my
    coloring page helped a lot!

Here's my current fabrics and the protype from Evernote. I like what is happening with the diagonal corners. The center part is a photo that Evernote isn't quite sizing correctly, and I didn't bother to finetune. My real questions will come with the empty top, sides and bottom. I've currently got them filled in, but I have some other ideas about possible fill ins but I'm not ready to decide. And I want to go back in and use the dark blue as the background fabric in more squares.

As far as sewing, I am slowly doing machine applique around the deer and antlers. The pattern suggested either needle turn or fused, raw edge. I elected to try Alex's prepared machine applique using Print and Piece Fuse Lite. So far, I've finished the deer and one set of antlers, but it's slow, tedious sewing and I'm trying to do a bit a day.

Jill B. Thank you for the compliments. I drew it up using Custom Layout.
I based the blocks on 5 inches since Lynn said that most were that size.
The custom size layout was set at 80 by 80. I drew up the blocks from
the photos of the blocks in Lynn Wilder's blog. Then I used a ton of copy
and paste, and rotates. I set the grid snap for custom at 1/2 inch to make it easy to align the blocks. The center block I
drew up as a 20 inch block and just dragged into the middle. It takes a
lot of time, but if you do it over several days it is not hard.Once you have it done
it is easy to play with color palettes. I get the white line drawing by using Swap Color in the fabrics tab and swap white for all the colors.

    HelenW
