IMPORTANT -- Things to Know Before Making Diamond Borders

This is a sticky topic.

Two strips cut 6"x WOF do have to be pieced together to give the length needed, with about 17" extra on each cut strip. There should be enough left from 8 strips to piece one extra for those who run short--there will be three seams in that last border instead of one.
- IP
-
You should have enough extra on each of the 6 strips you cut WOF to piece the last border needed. Try to hide the three seams with a diamond.

I plan on appliquéing the border… I think I’d enjoy the hand work, and had planned to over cut the strips also so I could ‘size’ them after I finished… I’m now rethinking it if there is just enough fabric. But, the 8 strips give us more length. Couldn’t we piece together a length.? It shouldn’t be noticeable?
i just cut my stripe fabric into 61/2 strips and only got 7 strips with 2 inch left over. I purchased kit.
what now
The instructions said to cut the strips 6” wide. There was 48” which gives 8 strips.
You should be able to find this fabric—you need a quarter yard to cut the last strip needed.
The Introduction shows all the Kit fabrics. This is 1/8” Grey Stripe by Riley Blake. I just found it in several Etsy shops.

Thank you so much - I am so glad I asked because I am pretty sure I do not have a two yard piece on hand - off to the fabric store I go!

[;n894181]I would like to know how much fabric I should have for the background fabric for the pieced border so that my background is all the same all the way around? Not sure if this was posted somewhere but sorry, I could not find it.
In the blog posted September 28 I say to get two yards of a non-directional fabric for piecing the Diamond Borders.
