I have chosen my fabrics from my stash. I didn't have enough on some of the colors, so I just tried to make 'very close' choices. I pondered over this for how long now?? Finally, I just decided to just take a favorite piece I wanted to use, and build it from there! I love my colors, so I know I'll enjoy sewing the mystery pieces together.

Happy day to everyone. I've been pretty busy. So far this month,,, two quilts quilted on the longarm for clients, and a few other miscellaneous items.

Did you happen to catch my Sept intention list on my blog? I'm trying for a very productive month. Next month I'm going to be on vacation so I need 'finishes' this month!! LOL

Luann- your fabrics are fab! You near matches really are very near! I did the same thing with my #3 fabric. 2 'near' fabrics.

So, just to keep you all up to date , and actually to help me remember since it will be written down somewhere: I have 6 grandchildren as of today. The newest one was born in April of this year. We are now expecting 3 more by next April! And 2 of the 3 are confirmed boys! That will make 4 new babies within 12 months. :S That will make 10 grands in all, and at least 6 of them boys. :woohoo: Love 'em all.
Just can't quilt that fast. I'd better practice my FMQ. (so far, still not my favourite)

, I don't have a picture, but I finished Step One units. I'm happy with my color choices so far! It's after midnight, so I will try to put a picture up in the morning.
Do we get one clue each month?
        Enjoying this already,

How exciting for you! Congrtulations on all the new additions. Sure would like to see a picture here someday with you and all 10 Grandies. Enjoy them. This may be just the thing that will push you toward enjoying doing relaxed all-over free motion designs for your quilting. It's either that or find a way to develop a wonderful working relationship with a good long-armer. Good luck!

Here are those units I finished last night. I'm wondering if this might be the layout?? Hmmmmm,,,,

            I'm really liking this,,,
Thanks Terrie, for inviting us along on this fun journey,

PS Terrie, auto correct always wants to change your name to terror!! I'm wondering what kind of a child were you? LOL

Terrie! How wonderful! 10 grandbabies. All the love......

I'm enjoying the mystery quilt also. Thanks for putting it all together for us.

Don't forget everyone, there is a Mystery Quilt group page.

              Have a great weekend.

Lois - thanks for the good advice, I think you're right. A long-arm relationship will be costly! Gotta buy more fabrics for all those grands!

Luann - mum's the word on your proposed pattern :silly:

I can't wait to see others posting their projects so far.

Heck Terrie and I was excited about one!!! You're not a Terrier but you may be by the end of this mystery.

Nice Luann but I thought you'd be using your lovely hand dyes.

Here is my start to the mystery

As for my construction variations - for step 1 a I layered fabric 4 on top of fabric 2, drew a line corner to corner and then stitched 1/4" from the line on both sides.

I then cut corner to corner across the stitching lines

finally I cut along the drawn lines which gave me the pairs needed.

For step 1 b I layered fabric 1 and 5 on top of one another and stitched 1/4" around the outside edge

I then cut the two diagonals

and opened them and pressed (I've always wanted to try this method of hst's and it works great )

Now I feel like carrying on with some more piecing, but supper needs cooking and Izzy needs a new school skirt sorting out (ie making) darn it. :S

                          Wendy,
I have some other plans for the hand dyed groups. There's a special event coming up, that I may package and price them for. Time will tell.
But I may just dye some up specifically for making this quilt again.

                            Rosemary,
I thought about doing those same techniques. Then I decided that I would try sewing those bias edges and see how it would go. Turned out ok, but if I do this quilt again I'll do the shorter way.
Thanks for actually showing the steps and giving the written explanations too. Very useful!!

PS. Love your fabric collection. Your quilt is going to be very nice.

Rosemary, I knew there was another way to do them, but I'm wondering how did you figure the measurements for squares, so you would end up with the final units you needed?

I used your measurements as given, I just did the stitching before the final cuts. No reason to change the measurements given unless I don't want things to fit together, since I don't know what the finished sizes ought to be
