How to clip the quilt with quilt clips to sew on it?

I am quilting near the center and I bought clips to help me make the quilt easier to manage. I am not sure how to clip it. I think I can only put clips on opposite sides or I can do two diagonal and one on the other side. Has anyone used those clips. Mine are red plastic. Thanks, Jan

I would advise not using them at all and just "puddling" the quilt under the harp of the machine.

Rolling the quilt or putting it in clips makes it very difficult to move and will really hamper your machine quilting.

The only "celebrity" I know of that rolls, or "packages" her quilts is Sue Nickels (and who can argue with her!) - but even she doesn't use those clips. I put them in the same category as that sticky design wall thing they were featuring a couple of years ago. Nice idea.........but no. I'd be interested to hear if anyone actually uses these things.

I tried the clips once. What a mess! They seemed to make it twice as hard. It's much easier to keep the quilt nice and loose.

I have used the clips, but every time one adjusts the quilt, you must readjust the clips and pretty soon you just give up. It's easier to puddle.

You are all correct. Clipping definately made it worse. What to do with those clips now???LOL JAN

Oh! Thank goodness! I thought it was me, doing something wrong. I bought those clips...two kinds (metal and plastic)... tried them...hated them...and threw them in a drawer. Glad to see I am not alone.
Jan...can I add my clips to your pile?

Maybe we can just have a giant drawer to put them all in--mine are added.

Mine too, except mine are blue! This post inspired me to get creative and find a way to recycle these. This is just a quick idea for turning them into curtain tiebacks. I sewed a tube of fabric and ruffled it onto 2 of them taped together. I would probably get more detailed and add cording to the top and bottom if I were going to use these. This was just an experiment and quickly done.

I have 2 red clips to add to the pile. These I got from my mother's quilting supplies after she passed away. They seemed like a great idea, but as others have posted, not worth the hassle. I really like the idea given for drapery tie-backs. Isn't it great when we can find something useful for those "must have" items that don't work for their intended purpose. Only on TQS will one get so many useful ideas, which makes the price of admission worth it, then we get videos, gorgeous quilts, etc. on top of everything else.
